Digitalis purpurea 'Gloxiniaeflora' (often called Gloxinia Foxglove) is a striking biennial that produces tall, erect spires of large, bell-shaped flowers. Growing up to 150cm tall, it features mottled, heavily speckled throats and blooms in early to mid-summer. The plant is highly toxic if ingested.
Key Characteristics  Appearance: Features large, flaring tubular flowers that resemble gloxinia blossoms. The colours range across bright pinks, purples, reds, and white, all distinctly speckled or spotted on the inner lower lip. Foliage: Forms a basal rosette of oblong, downy, deep green leaves in its first year, sending up towering flower spikes in its second year.
Height & Spread: Grows up to 150cm high and spreads roughly 45 to 60cm.
Wildlife: A classic magnet for pollinators, particularly bumblebees and hummingbirds.
Growth Requirements  Soil & Moisture: Prefers fertile, moist, humus-rich, and well-drained soil.  Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade.
Hardiness: Fully hardy and usually grows as a biennial.
Toxicity  All parts of the plant, including the roots and seeds, are highly poisonous to humans and animals because they contain cardiac glycosides (used in heart medication). Handling the sap can also cause skin irritation, so wearing gardening gloves is advised.

  •  What you’re buying

Plant images are used for illustrative purposes only, so you know what your plant will look like once fully grown.

You’re purchasing your chosen size of plug plant (by selecting “Plant Size” option above).

Mini Plugs: Each plug is approximately 15mm sq, containing tender young seedlings in need of pricking out and potting on to grow before being planted out.

Midi Plugs: Each plug is approximately 20mm sq, plants are a little more mature than the mini's, can sometimes be planted out if the weather is good and the last frost has passed.

Maxi Plugs: Each plug is approximately 30mm sq, plants are more mature, sometimes over a year old, which can mean well developed root systems and/or fewer leaves due to winter dormancy or cutting back. Generally hardened off and garden ready, though for best results good weather is preferred for planting out.
